This is the famous "Halloween" General Set that Lionel made in 1960; it was offered as a premium by Gifts Galore thru selected retail outlets, such as Rexall Drugs. As seen in the pictures, this example includes the often discarded cardboard outer sleeve (No set is truly complete without this substantial value-added sleeve). As we wrote in our Guide to Lionel Trains, 1945-1969, Volume IV, Uncatalogued Sets, this was "one of the premier post-war promotional sets" sold by Lionel Trains. This Set includes the #1882 Halloween General Engine, the #1882T General Tender, the #1866 Mail/Baggage General Car, the #1885 Special Blue Halloween General Passenger Car, the 1887 Brown Flat Car with Yellow Fences and Horses, the #963-100 Plasticville Frontier Set with Picture Front, 12 027 Curve Track, 4 Straight Track, a 90 Degree 027 Crossing and the #1015 Transformer. Our Opinion is that the Set is generally in Like New Condition, minor signs of use and age. The Original Maroon Cardboard Flat Pack is in (9-) Condition, a piece of tape on one corner, and includes a crisp, die-cut "speckled" Insert. The Brown Cardboard Shipping Sleeve in (9-) Condition, some writing and some minor wear along the seams. This uncataloged Outfit is a Centerpiece of any Significant Post-War Collection. All Original in our Opinion. Please add $50.00 for US-48 Shipping and Insurance. |
